After about three years of development we present the ALPINIST Hardshell with 37.5® Active Particle Technology! The ALPINIST jacket is our answer to the most extreme weather conditions that the northern hemisphere has to offer and at the same time the storm-proof final layer in MerkelGEAR’s 5-layer system. Whether wind or heavy rain, this highly breathable bad weather jacket protects against all the adversities Mother Nature has to offer. The aim was a minimalist design – and with good reason: a modern hard shell has thermo-welded seams. Due to the change from warm to cold, these welds can eventually become loose, which is the case even with the most expensive of all jackets (therefore never hang hardshells for drying directly over or on a heater and generally keep them cool and dry). In order to avoid this loosening of the weld tapes and to be able to guarantee permanent waterproofness, we have minimized the number of seams in the ALPINIST and aimed for a reduced, clear and purpose-oriented design. Form Follows Function is the motto. The result is impressive performance and absolute practicality with the lowest possible wear. The ALPINIST jacket can be taken with a clear conscience to the remotest parts of the northern hemisphere. If it gets cold, you can pull up to four layers underneath and can calmly face any storm. The 3.5-layer construction of the outer fabric is specially tailored to the requirements of hunters: robust, quiet, waterproof and breathable. The outer fabric comes from our proven HYBRID series, is transversely elastic and water-repellent impregnated (environmentally friendly DWR finish: PFOS- & PFOA-free), the membrane is naturally waterproof and windproof (min. 20,000mm water column 20,000g/qm breathability). The fleece backing underneath is extremely breathable thanks to its fine waffle structure and 37.5® Active Particle Technology and effectively dissipates excess heat to the 50cm(!) long, triple-zipped underarm vents. Other „rain jackets“ are often too thin for hunting, feel cold on the skin and rustle loudly. The ALPINIST Hardshell, on the other hand, can also be worn comfortably on its own with just a merino T-shirt underneath. It is a light but absolutely full-fledged jacket, which is perfectly suited for extreme mountain hunting, rain stalking for red deer and hunting trips into the cold tundra.

The equipment of the ALPINIST Hardshell includes a large, 3-way adjustable drop-away storm hood with front stiffeners and a very soft, non-scratching inner collar. A matt Aquaguard® zipper from YKK closes the jacket; further YKK® zippers close the chest pockets and the large Napoleon pockets. These are arranged in a way that no water can run in from the elbows when the hands are inserted. There is enough space in the breast pockets to store small to medium-sized binoculars during rain. The left breast pocket contains an optics cleaning cloth. Inside the jacket there is a pocket with YKK® zipper on the left and a highly elastic mesh pocket on the right. The width can be adjusted at the cuffs by means of Velcro and Hypalon-bar. The jacket waistband can be adjusted thanks to a strongly dimensioned elastic band, while the significantly extended rear of the ALPINIST Hardshell reliably keeps water away from the trousers waistband.
